View these pages on social life, housing, food, and other aspects of life in an African village. Kolomiseed (in Al-Zawrat) is a small village on the Nile River in northern Sudan. This part of Sudan and the nearby part of Egypt are known as Nubia. The Nubian people have lived along the Nile for thousands of years, since pharaonic times. Elements of their ancient culture persist in their lives today.
