Transportation
within the village and its surrounding farms in some ways remains
the way it has been for thousands of years. People often walk
or ride donkeys or camels, and donkeys and camels carry heavy
loads from place to place. A simple wooden sailboat is used
for carrying people, animals and goods across the Nile. More
modern means of transportation are also used. These include
simple donkey and horse carts, as well as small pick-up trucks.
There are no regular cars, because none of the roads are paved.
People travel to nearby marketplaces or to the provincial capital
of Dongola in these pick-ups or in buses. |
